What’s about to happen here is unimaginable, Jacob goes to the door and locks and comes towards Linda and shares a kiss with her, what about Linda? does she share too? (The title of the book says it all!), yes, she shares and she can’t seem to push him away as she is enjoying the moment! After this intimacy, a new spark is born, or so to say her college relationship has ignited again, and she somewhat likes it! After the interview gets over, Jacob suggests getting back together after work, at first she resists by saying she has to pick up her children from school, then he says maybe they can have lunch someday, she agrees! Linda’s interviewee is her ex-boyfriend, Jacob (who’s a year younger to Linda), from college with whom she had a passionate relationship! The interview goes as usual. She works at a popular news agency in Geneva, election days are near and now she has to give some updates on the election to her agency. She feels her relationship is now no more exciting and interesting like it was in the early years of her marriage, and after the birth of her children, both have seem to lost that spark! She thinks of her life, marriage, children and her job, nothing is wrong with anything, but she still feels that her life has become a routine and lacks passion and meaning. Linda often wakes up in the middle of the night staring at the ceiling next to her husband who sleeps like a baby. She enjoys a great life, has a perfect family (husband who takes care of her and loving children), a great job, and all imaginable luxuries! But, she still feels lonely or so to say she feels that her life is passionless, feels her relationship has come to a point of saturation and has no exciting adventures that perks up her life! Life has some other plans for her when she meets her ex-boyfriend from her college during an interview who is now an aspiring politician! Summary Paulo Coelho takes on the topic ‘Adultery’ in a different angle which is not so acceptable in our conventional society.
